Jaroslaw Edward Suchoples

Jarosław Edward Suchoples is a distinguished Polish historian, diplomat, and academic, born on April 12, 1969, in Gdańsk, Poland. He earned his M.A. in history from the University of Gdańsk in 1993 and later obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki in 2000, under the supervision of Professor Matti Klinge. Suchoples further enriched his academic experience as a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, between 2001 and 2002.

Throughout his career, Suchoples has held various academic positions across Europe and Asia. He has lectured at esteemed institutions such as the Humboldt University of Berlin, Free University of Berlin, University of Wrocław, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and University of Szczecin. From 2013 to 2015, he served as an associate professor at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In 2017, Suchoples was appointed as Poland’s Ambassador to Finland, a position he held until 2019. Currently, he is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Music, Art, and Culture Studies of the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, where he engages in research projects focusing on the history and memory of World War I, World War II, and the Cold War.

Suchoples is a prolific author, with notable works including World War II Re-explored: Some New Millennium Studies in the History of the Global Conflict (2019), Re-visiting World War I: Interpretations and Perspectives of the Great Conflict (2016), and Representations of War in Films and Novels (2016). His scholarly contributions have significantly advanced the understanding of European history and international relations.
