The Degrees of Existence by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas deepens our understanding of the concept, reality, and degrees of existence in Islamic philosophy. Al-attas examines the issues with penetrating rigour, explaining lucidly the difference between tashakhkhus, ta’ayyum, tajalli and taqayyud, as modes of individuation, and helps illuminate the typology and gradation of existence. It is a substantial contribution to our current understanding of Islamic metaphysics.
