Asmadi Hassan

Asmadi Hassan is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Japan Studies) from University of Malaya, Master of Laws from Keio University and a PhD in Japanese Politics from University of Malaya. He was the Head of the Department of East Asian Studies from 2017 until 2021. Besides being involved in administration, he teaches Japanese Politics and Administration, Japanese Political Economy, Japanese Local Government and Political Issues in East Asia. His current research interests include Japanese politics, Japanese local government and comparative studies on Malaysia-Japan politics. He is the recipient of the Japan Foundation Research Grant and Korean Foundation Research Grant. He is the author and editor of books such as Transformasi Sosial Kontemporari Jepun, Jepun dan Dinamisme Global and Jepun dan Malaysia: Perspektif Sejarah, Politik, Ekonomi dan Sosiobudaya. He was President of MAJAS from 2013 until 2016 and is currently its Secretary General. He is also on the steering committee of the Japanese Studies Association in ASEAN (JSA-ASEAN). He has been a member of MJRC since its establishment in 2012 until today.
