The language and linguistics list focus on the description of the Malay language (Bahasa Melayu), an Austronesian language spoken in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as parts of Thailand, in all dialects and sectarians, within the framework of contemporary linguistics. The list is concerned equally with the synchronic and the diachronic aspects of the Malay language studies and publishes articles of the highest quality which make a substantial contribution to our understanding of the structure and development of the Malay language and which are informed by a knowledge and appreciation of linguistic theory. The list provides a platform for different theoretical and thematic approaches to linguistics and language teaching.
