Azman Ujang
Azman Ujang has had a long and distinguished career in journalism. He started out as a cadet reporter with the national news agency BERNAMA in his hometown of Kuching, Sarawak, in 1971 and rose through the ranks, standing out for having his nose for news and asking tough questions at press conferences and interviews. The most coveted post in journalism—Editor-in-Chief—came his way in 2004, and two years later, he was appointed the BERNAMA Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in 2008. He was appointed Chairman of BERNAMA in 2016 until 2020, becoming the first person and so far the only one to have held the top three posts in BERNAMA’s 56-year history. Post-retirement from BERNAMA, he has served on the Boards of Permodalan Usahawan Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Advisory Board. He is currently an Executive Director of Berjaya Group Berhad and Director of Sun Media’ Group.
