Christopher J. Shepherd

Christopher J. Shepherd is an independent researcher affiliated with the Department of Anthropology at the Australian National University. He does research on rural development processes, indigenous politics, the history of science, the history of anthropology, extraction industries and human trafficking. Shepherd has two books on East Timor: Development and Environmental Politics Unmasked: Authority, Participation and Equity in East Timor (Routledge, 2014) and Haunted Houses and Ghostly Encounters: Animism and Ethnography in East Timor, 1860-1975 (NUS Press, 2019).
