Ifi Amadiume

Ifi Amadiume is professor of religion and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Religion and the African-American Studies Program at Dartmouth College. She teaches courses on indigenous religions of Africa and women in African religions. She also teaches courses in African studies and women’s studies. Born in Nigeria of Igbo parents, Amadiume was educated in Nigeria and Britain and holds a Ph.D. from the University of London in social anthropology. She has done fieldwork in Africa and has written several books, with a special interest in gender analysis. Her new book is entitled Daughters of the Goddess, Daughters of Imperialism: African Women, Culture, Power and Democracy (Zed Books, 2000).
