Kris Lane

Kris Lane holds the France V. Scholes Chair in Colonial Latin American History at Tulane University. His work concentrates on the history of mining, trade, and piracy in the early modern Spanish & Portuguese Empires. Lane is author of Potosí: The Silver City that Changed the World (2019), Colour of Paradise: The Emerald in the Age of Gunpowder Empires (2010), Quito 1599: City & Colony in Transition (2002), and Pillaging the Empire: Global Piracy on the High Seas (2d ed. 2015). He is currently completing a history of the great Potosí mint fraud of the 1640s and its global repercussions.
