Rohayati Paidi

Rohayati Paidi is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. She obtained her Bachelor of Economics from Kobe University, Master of Business Administration from Shiga University and a PhD in Sociology of Japanese subculture from UM. She was the Head of the Department of East Asian Studies from 2017 until 2021. She is also a member of the MAJAS as well as a member of MJRC since its establishment in 2012 until today. She teaches and publishes various topics on Japan and Malaysia. Her current research interests include interpersonal relationships between Malaysian and Japanese, motivation to learn Japanese among Malaysians, ikigai sense among Malaysians and the adaptation of Japanese values among Malaysians. She is the author of Transformasi Sosial Kontemporari Jepun and Cosplay di Malaysia: Transmisi dan Integrasi Trait Subbudaya Jepun. She is the recipient of the Sumitomo Foundation research grant.
