Xiaoping Fang

Xiaoping Fang is an Associate Professor of Chinese Studies at Monash University. He received his PhD in history from the National University of Singapore, where he majored in Modern China and the history of science, technology, and medicine. His research interests focus on the history of medicine, health and epidemics in 20th-century China and the sociopolitical history of Mao’s China after 1949. He is the author of Barefoot Doctors and Western Medicine in China (University of Rochester Press, 2012) and China and the Cholera Pandemic: Restructuring Society under Mao (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2021), and he has published articles in journals such as Modern China, The China Quarterly, Modern Asian Studies and Medical History.
